What to send.

  • The original CAD file where possible, or STEP and any available mesh files.
  • A marked-up drawing, sketch or clear list of changes.
  • Critical dimensions, mating parts and manufacturing requirements.
  • Required output formats and your preferred deadline.

Before you begin

Good questions.

Can you edit an STL file?

Possibly. STL files contain triangles rather than the original design features. Simple changes may be practical; larger changes can require rebuilding the geometry.

Can you work from a sketch or scan?

These can provide a starting point. Include dimensions and intended use so the modelling or reconstruction work can be assessed.

Is the edited design ready for manufacture?

Preparation is based on the production method and requirements you provide. Critical fit, tolerances and performance should be checked before committing to production.
